ABOUT US

NCMHS is a tax exempt, 501(C)3 historical organization that honors the State’s rich military history and traditions by recording the bravery, sacrifices, and challenges of Tar Heel service members and the military events in which they participated from the Colonial period to the present. The Society has long-standing relationships with the NC National Guard, NC National Guard Association, the Society of the Cincinnati, and the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

The Society collects and preserves military artifacts, photographs, papers, and other memorabilia related to the State and its service members, and promotes the study and appreciation of North Carolina’s martial history and the role played by this State and her veterans in every conflict in American History.

Education is a primary goal of the Society. Membership dues fund the semi-annual publication of the Society’s magazine, Recall, which is provided to all members, as well as to numerous libraries. These funds also help provide for the operation of the “North Carolina Military History Museum” located aboard the US Air Force Recreation Area and National Guard Training Center near the Fort Fisher State Historic Site at Kure Beach, North Carolina. The Society also hosts an Annual Meeting and Symposium each May in Raleigh, highlighting topics and subjects related to North Carolina’s military history.

For more information on membership or the symposium, please contact Treasurer Andrew Duppstadt at ncmhs1@gmail.com or 252-526-9600 ext. 227.
